LK Rigel interview with Olivia Hardin

We have an awesome guest interviewer today!! Author Olivia Hardin has taken the reigns and asked the important questions today. Olivia is the author of the Bend, Bite, Shift series, and the MAUCs series. Kind of having a fan girl moment.....2 of my favorite authors on my blog at once!! Hope you enjoy what the ladies have to say :)

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Did you always see yourself as a writer?

Like thousands of little girls who got lost in books and found themselves there, I was a reader
first. The writing started when I was still in grade school. By seventh grade, I identified as a
writer—and have ever since.

2. You’ve recently released the second book in your Tethers Series. Tell us a little bit about it and
how we can find it.

Bride of Fae is about a Dumnos mortal, Beverly Bratton, who falls through a fae time portal and
travels a hundred years into the past to meet a banished fae prince named Dandelion. Beverly
and Dandelion join forces to recover a magical cup crucial to the succession of the fae crown.
We find out how the Dumnos fae are linked with the earls and countesses of Dumnos, and we
also discover who Lilith’s father was. Bride of Fae is available for Kindle and Nook.

3. I’m amazed at how you can keep track of all of the time and location shifts that take place in
both Tethers books, but especially this second one. There are a lot of characters and intricate
things that happen and weave through all of their lives. How do you manage it? Do you use
outlines?

I’ve always loved stories that incorporate multiple time lines. A.S. Byatt’s Possession, the double
story of two modern day scholars and the Victorian poets they’re researching, is one of my
favorites. I like to discover deeper reasons for a present predicament located in past choices
and events. It is a challenge to manage, so I use a time line while I’m writing, and I usually know
the ending well before I write the middle sections—which is a big help in not getting lost in the
weeds.

4. Imagine you just got the most awesome news (like maybe you made the bestseller list!) Which
one of your characters would you tell first and why?

My first thought is Morning Glory because she can’t keep a secret! But then she’s also not too
reliable. She might forget to tell anybody. King Harold from Firebird would be good. He’d throw
a party and invite the world.

5. Can you give us any clues about what we might expect in the next Tethers book?

The next book is called War of the Wyrd. The two featured time periods are current-day
Dumnos and the 12th century conflict between Matilda and Stephen (between the reigns of
Henry I and Henry II). We learn how the Dumnos Fae sided with the Christian monks to destroy
the wyrders and drive them underground. It opens in the present with Beverly when the
daughter of Lily and Cade shows up at Mudcastle – already 14 years old! Beverly turns to Max

the goblin to help her devise a charm to synchronize time between the human realm and the fae
realm. In so doing, she stumbles upon a terrible secret from Max’s past. This book is darker than
the first two books – but I promise the fourth book, The Goblin King, will be a sweetness and
light overload!

6. Free time! Share anything else you want readers to know about you, your books, or anything!

My next book up for publication is something slightly different, a contemporary romantic
suspense set on the northern California coast titled Kiss Me Hello. It does have a paranormal—
or at least gothic—element in that it’s a ghost story. Look for the cover reveal here this week
and a chance to win a personalized ARC!

Bride of Fae by Lk Rigel

A love more powerful than magic or time.

Beverly Bratton has a safe, mundane life. No drama. No magic. Since her parents died, she’s cared for her little sister Marion and worked at the Tragic Fall Inn. When a fairy’s charm sends Beverly a hundred years into the past–and into the path of a banished fairy prince–nothing will ever be mundane or safe again.

The regent of the Dumnos fae is turning the court from light to dark, and there's nothing the rightful king, Prince Dandelion, can do about it. The mystical coronation cup which he needs to become king has fallen into human hands. When he meets a human woman with access to the cup, everything changes. Beverly is fascinating as well as useful–but of course Dandelion doesn’t love her.

Love for a fairy is rare. Love with a human, impossible. But when Beverly and Dandelion are thrown together in a battle against both wyrd and fae, they learn that in Dumnos the impossible happens every day.
Amazon/B&N

Our thoughts:

This was a beautifully written book, after reading the first in the series, Give Me, I was more than excited for this one to come out. L.k. Rigel has the ability to transport you to another world with her writing, she paints such vivid pictures. I would recommend this book to anyone. Well done L.k, you had me in tears at the end of the book. 5 stars
~Jessi

Wow what a novel! Where to begin. Beverly is so special. Giving up her education after her parents death, she took on the task of raising her sister. Working in a bar she makes enough to get them by with little else to show for it. Things become weird when some friends from college show up investigating some stories about a supernatural tree.
Once Beverly enters the Fey realm by way of this tree her life will never be the same again.
I love the fact Beverly is an average girl. Not some stark raving mad beauty but a real female. She has guts and determination and all kinds of characteristics that make the reader adore her. The plot is well paced and keeps the reader going. I didn't read Give Me and when the plots intertwined I was only briefly confused so that was good. I think that this book does very well as a stand alone novel but it does make you really want to read book one. I think this book presents the reader with a little of everything we look for.....between the battle between the dark and light get to the wonderful love story between Beverly and one seriously yummy Prince Dandy. This is definitely a recommended book as well as one I will read again!!! 4 stars

~Michelle

First, let me say, I rarely like sequels, books or movies. At first, I thought it was difficult to get into the book and understand what was happening. I was expecting this book to be like the last, but it wasn’t. This book took me here and there with the story, and like a beautiful rose, slowly opened and fulfilled my hope and expectation. The drawing in of the first book really made you relate to the story line and feel Beverly’s pain and joy. One surprise after another occurs in this book, and it thrills you as you go. The only word of warning is that this book in the movie world would rate a PG-13 due to love scenes. However, I still have to give this woman the props due her and award her 5 stars for this book. Loved it!
~Carrie

What a fantastic book. Unfortunately I have not read book 1 yet Give Me but luckily it was not needed in order to keep up with this magical tale. What one of us didn't grow up listening to stories about faries, Wyrds and Goblins. They all tell us that humans and the magical worlds cannot mix but somehow it seems to work. The building of the characters and storyline shows us that Lk Rigel cares about her readers and their thoughts. The cover of the book was absolutely beautiful and makes you want to buy it. Each character has a essence all their own and are given a three dimensional quality. The setting for each journey in the book was carefully described as if to place you into the scene as one of the characters. I highly recommend getting Give Me first then purchasing Bride of Fae so you can enhance your Fae enjoyment. I look forward to reading more in the future from Lk Rigel.
~Lisa

Bride of Fae is the second book in the Tether series by Rigel. I honestly love the second book better than the first one. You have to read these in order or you will spoil the surprise from this one. This book unlocked secrets of the characters from Give Me and others you find out how they came to be in the first one. It was a great story and adventure. I loved the ending of this book and hoping to read more by this awesome author. This book has creatures like fae, goblins, and pixies (not counting humans). This book is like a loop and starts where you left off then goes back in time to find out how that came to be then you get plugged back in when you learn the backstory. Brillant!!! IT is a wonderful magical adventure and looking to read more from this author! I'm going to keep from giving you a summary since it would contain too many spoilers! I give this a 5 star review!

Our Thoughts:

If you love fairy tales, get this book. I was hooked right away, the story was so interesting. I loved how unique it was, not like every book out there. I read the whole thing in a day, I couldn't put it down. I loved the play between the Lilith and Cade. After finishing this book, I immediately went and bought anything else I could find by LK Rigel. She has a way of enrapturing you with her words, and transporting you to another world. I highly recommend this book. 5 stars
~Jessi

This book surprised me at the beginning and surprised me at the end. The transitional pieces between now and the past and the order that this book was written is astounding! The crescendo of the story line was built so well, I had no idea what it was until I was reading it! This was easy to get hooked into and stay that way. I would love to write a larger or more defined review, but to do that without telling you the plot, sub plots and twists and turns is impossible. That having been said, I give this book 4 ¾ stars.
~Carrie

Give Me is the first book in the Tethers series by Lk Rigel. I really enjoyed this book and the imagery the author writes in it. You will fall in love with Lilith and what she goes through and how strong she is.I just love the characters! Lk Rigel leaves you wanting more with how the book ends! Lilith Evergreen is from the United States and living a happy life with Greg, a socialite, until Greg goes on a business trip and comes back to meet her at a restaurant. Lilith's world crumbles and he hands her blow off money, so she decides to go on a trip to Tintagos Castle. She has been dreaming about it for years. Lilith arrives to Dumnos and meets Cade Bausiney. They have a instant connection and fire between them. Lilith learns of the lore behind Dumnos, Tintagos Castle, and the Tragic Fall Inn. Lilith gets another shock when she discovers that not all the lore is just Fairy tales. Will Lilith beat the curse? What is going on between her and Cade? I give this book a 5 star review! Can't wait to read Bride of the Fae #2 book in the Tethers series!

INCREDIBLE DREAMS is the story of a modern-day ghost whisperer who travels through time to save the life of a WWII fighter pilot and ends up jeopardizing her own existence. Lk Rigel week

Today is the start of Lk Rigel week on the blog!!! I'm so excited, because I love her to death. Her books are magic in word form. We're starting the week off with an interview!

Did you always know that you wanted to write?

1

I’ve known since seventh grade, when my teacher read my creative writing assignment
aloud to the class and then said, “THAT is a writer!” But that was just the bonus. The
best part was watching my friends react to my description of the character in the story
waking up to discover she was blind. It was all so melodramatic.

2

What genre has been the most fun for you to write?

The one I’m writing right now! (whenever “right now” is) When a story grabs me and
demands to be told, the story picks the genre. That said, the Tethers series is a kick to
write. I love Max and Cissa, especially.

In fact, now that you’ve made me think about it, no one genre is more or less fun than
another, but some characters are more fun than others. Max and Cissa from the Tethers
series; King Harold, Father Jesse, and Saskia from the Apocalyptos; Miss Fiddyment,
April and Josef, and poor Reverend Grim from Love Was Never Wise. In Kiss Me Hello,
my new book, Peekie and Spot are the fun ones. Hm…those names don’t sound very
scary for a ghost story….

Which of your characters speaks to you the most?

3

Susan Gray in Love Was Never Wise. She’s utterly powerless in her world, the early
1800s, without connections, money, or a proper place. Bad things happen. The man she loves
loves her—but not enough. She doesn’t give up. When life finally offers her something good
enough, she refuses to settle and creates her own real happiness. In Kiss Me Hello, the main
character Sara struggles with all the crap of modern life: unfair work environment, a husband
she’s unsure of, longing for a mythological better past. Then something utterly impossible
happens, and she doesn’t close her mind to the miracle.

4

What is something that people would be surprised to find out about you?

I’m shy and have almost no self-confidence.

If you could meet any fictional character, who would it be?

5

Professor Minerva McGonagall in her second year teaching at Hogwarts.

Who was your first book crush?

6

Rafer Hoxworth in James Michener’s Hawaii. A total bad boy with his own morality. My
first heroic villain.

Hope you all enjoyed my questions and LK's answers!! Please check out LK's blog www.lkrigel.com
Stay tuned all week for book reviews, and more fun things!!!

Wicked Fate excerpt

What if you lived in fear of yourself?

For Mage McPherson being afraid of herself is just the norm. Thanks to that fear, being a loner in a small town never bothered the mysterious Mage. Once she received her secret abilities, she figured being alone was the safest way to be. That all changes during her sophomore year at Summerville High when Adam, her equally mysterious secret crush, starts to notice her.

Afraid that she might harm Adam, Mage must learn to either control or deny herself. With Adam by her side she's more powerful than she’s ever been, but is she powerful enough to defeat her worst nightmare? She learns a hard lesson about love and magic when her destiny comes to collect.

Excerpt:

A loud noise from across the gym catches my attention. Searching the crowd, it seems that no one

else even notices the strange commotion. I hear it once more before my eyes are directed to the culprit. A

now familiar face comes into sight.

With her back against the wall, Bernie covers her face with her hands as three girls stand in front of

her and pummel her with a big red kick ball. They laugh when the ball bounces off of her and she lets out a

little hissing noise.

“Stop it!” Bernie yells back. “What are you…five?”

“Are you a freak, too? Everyone saw you with the weird girl today at lunch,” I hear one girl say as

she bends down to grab the ball.

Word gets around fast…poor Bernie.

“The gym is the best place for you, fat ass!” another girl says with a laugh.

The ball smacks against Bernie’s leg, causing her to fall to one knee.

Disgusted, I stare helplessly, knowing that this is because of me. As far as they’re concerned she’s a

traitor to the normal people.

Just seeing the backs of the three bullies, I know who they are. I don’t need to see their almost

perfect faces. Brandy Phillips, Michelle Sedgwick, and Wendy Baker—The Three Bitchkateers.

All three are fake blondes with tanning bed tans and acrylic nails. I guess they could be considered

as pretty—at least on the outside; inside they’re wretched heathens.

I run ideas through my head on how to stop their torment. Before doing anything, I look back up

and meet Bernie’s eyes staring back at me with a look of pain on her face.

Please look away!

No way am I doing anything with her staring at me. It would give everything about me away. Not

that it matters if she thinks I’m a freak; everyone else does. I just don’t want to go around flashing to the

world that they’re right about me.

Finally, she looks away to block the ball. I take advantage of that moment, and I shoot my vision to

the little red kick ball. I follow it as it bounces off of Bernie and back into the hands of her tormentors. I let

my anger build until I can almost feel the red hotness of my fury burning behind my eyes.

Never taking my eyes from the ball, I begin to feel its vibrations inside of me. Every time it bounces

from one surface to the other, I feel it; even from across the room.

My anger reaches its limits, and I know that I’m now in control of the ball. With one final bounce

off of Bernie, I push and add speed behind the ball. Instead of catching it with her hands, the ball flies

directly into Brandy’s face. The sound of the red rubber smashing into her echoes through the gym.

Excerpt #1
CLAUDE abruptly awoke to sounds that didn't belong in the silence of the cay. The clock by the bed read 1:15 am. A wet puff of air steamed down the companionway, adding to humidity so thick his boxer shorts clung to his skin. Then he heard it. A muffled hum drifted across the water, then hushed voices. The noises slowed, then stopped. Claude waited. Nothing.
Suddenly, the boat listed. Somebody's on board. Claude heard the thud of heavy boots topside and could tell there was more than one intruder. The skin on his neck prickled. His only thought was to flee, but there was nowhere to go, nowhere to hide. He had no weapons. He bolted from the stateroom, through the galley and hid in the farthest corner of the second stateroom.
“Won't do you any good to hide,” a cold, hard voice called. “Come out where we can see you. We won't hurt you.”
The sliding stateroom door squealed open. Claude clutched a corner of the bedcover. Someone grabbed it. At the same time, the room exploded with light.
“Who are you?” Claude could barely speak for the suffocating pressure in his chest. “I can't see you.”
No answer. The flashlight's beam strayed from his face. He stared into the darkness, praying. He heard the metallic click of a safety and watched in horror as cowboy boots and a blur of denim rushed toward him. Cold steel pressed into his temple.

Sarah Ross reviews

18 year old Tessa Copeland barely survived the worst year of her life—in fact, it was a miracle. After making it through the tragedy that killed both of her parents, she’s left to pick up the pieces of her life. Combating the holes in her memory and the concern of her friends was hard enough, but a new talent threatens to destroy everything she’s trying to reclaim.
David Allegri didn’t mean to ruin Tessa’s life. She was the brightest soul he’d seen in centuries and he couldn’t let her die, so the fallen angel used his abilities to heal her—only he took it too far and changed Tessa forever. Now, he has to figure out a way to explain what’s happening to Tessa and somehow protect both of them from the consequences.

Amazon/B&N

Our thoughts:After the accident, Tessa's life was turned upside down. Due to the coma she missed almost 18 months of her life. Her brain had several lapses....only pieces of her last 18 years could be easily
recalled by her. Most importantly the accident left her a freak in her own mind. Then one day David shows up in her porch swing. He tells her that he is a fallen angel and she is not a freak, but now an immortal.
David and Tessa get themselves in so much trouble together. This book is one adventure after another but it works, because it all relates back to the central theme of the story. I do like how David cared enough to reach out and go get Tessa. All of us girls love a man who will fight for us.
I had a real annoyance with the Nico character....I really despised him with all his sneaky ways, but hey that is the mark of a great author giving us characters we love as well as ones we love to hate. I understand the way Tessa sorta fell so hard so fast for David feeling so out of control of her life for so long due to the accident, but I do wish in their relationship I could see a little more spunk like she had in the beginning. It is a good solid read and the first book in this lovely authors new series. definitely worth the time to read......oh, by the way be prepared for a huge, like massive cliffhanger.......happy reading!!!!! 4 stars

~Michelle

Wow! Sarah Ross can write! This was another awesome story!!

Tessa has lost her parents and was on her own death bed. The man that saved her sat by her side every day to see if he could help her get better.
He helped her a little too much. He turned her into an Angel. He disappeared when he realized what he had done.
Afraid of the consequences he decided to come back and watch her to see if maybe he didn't go beyond what was necessary. He did. Now only to explain to Tessa so she wouldn't freak out about her new life.
What will happen to her? What will become of David? There is so much that happens in this short story. I fully recommend this to everyone! Trust me, you will be taken on a different angel spin. 5 stars

Our thoughts:

Lucy was on her last vacation from college life when a drunk driver took all of that away. Lucy awakened as part of the Patronus world. A group of strong souls that have earned the right to go fight for souls and protect them from other things that lurk in the shadows. Training is grueling to prepare for her assignments. Luckily she has been taken in by some great friends and one super dreamy hunk named Max. Only thing is the closed age gets to Max , the more she feels him pulling away.......and no one will tell her why ! For the moment Lucy must put all this aside because her first mission has arrived.....and it is her baby sister. Different type of guardian angel /spirit guide story. I liked the references to people from the past. Who wouldn't want to meet Amelia or Queen Elizabeth I. The story is also full of action. I would have loved to see Lucy trying to make these historical characters and and ever herself a little more hip to this century for kicks. Overall a great read and well worth your time. Also grammar is on point, the plot is well paced without being overwhelming. Realistic settings and characters are well developed. Great lead into a new series. 5 stars

This book has so many ups and downs. It flings you from emotion to emotion in a never ending loop. Because of the way this is written, you identify closely with the main character. Unfortunately, I felt a bit swept away with the emotions and not really "getting" the plot in the beginning. You will find a great deal of name dropping and characters from the past with a quick history lesson thrown in. As the ending draws near, it all seems to come together. Very well written and articulate. The blend of fiction and various beliefs was refreshing. 4 stars

Gah! I just finished this one and holy crap! It was an amazing journey! A wonderfully different take on the beings in the in between. Now all my book friends have raved about Ms. Ross unfortunately I was never able to get to it. Then low and behold this opportunity came along! Finally! A chance to read it! YES!!!!! Lucy is on a trip with her best friend. Her last hoorah trip before graduating College. She never got the chance to walk that stage. Her life gets taken away from her. Instead of going beyond, she is chosen to be a Patronus. (so Harry Potter-ish LOL but it makes sense). Lucy wakes up in an junk own room with people she has never met. She sees Max. BAM! Instant attraction, unexplained attraction! Then something is going on with her sister. Lucy needs to help her. How does one help someone that can't see or hear her? In a way that would break the heart of anyone....to be her guide. To prepare with Amelia, yes THE Amelia and THE Queen Elizabeth, to train, to fight, to attempt to survive this new world she was placed in. 5 stars

Beyond the Veil: Interview with Ella

45

Hey all, we're pretty lucky today, we've persuaded Ella to chat with us!!! I hope you enjoy what she has to sat as much as I did :)

Though the Serbian pack has been brought to heel thanks to the downfall of their Alpha, the war is far from over.
Desdemona, a witch of unfathomable power, has escaped the wolves’ wrath, but she will not go quietly into the night. She takes refuge in a place where even the smallest sliver of light does not dare to enter. Though she had to flee, she has not given up on the treasure she wishes to acquire. Her depravity knows no bounds; she's even willing to search for the one who can assist her in opening a Veil that has not been opened in millennia – with good reason: the danger is incalculable.
Meanwhile, there are major changes rippling through the Romanian Grey wolves. Decebel has become Alpha to the Serbian pack in an effort to begin to unite the Canis lupis species. Their numbers are dwindling in the wake of the shortage of true mates and lack of offspring. The wolves are beginning to lose faith and darkness seems to be crashing in on them from all sides. But the winds of change are blowing, changes that will alter the future of not only the Canis lupis, but of another ancient race as well.
Amidst all of this, Sally is continuing to come to terms with her relationship with the playful, charming, flirty, unbelievably handsome bartender – who happens to be a member of the Romanian pack.
If all that weren’t enough, the Fates have decided to pay a little visit to Jen. It’s time to collect. She cheated the Fates of a life, her life. Now they want what they are due. The problem? It’s more than Jen is willing to pay.
Yes, the war is indeed far from over. Bargains will be struck, declarations will be made, sacrifices will be given, love will be tested, and trust will be questioned as evil makes its stand against them all.

What are your feelings on being mated to a werewolf?

It’s not something that I ever expected to happen to me, but now that it has I’m happy about it. Sorin is amazing and so caring and loving.

if you and Sorin have kids, would you want your child to be more Fae or Wolf?

That’s a tough question. I would hope that they would have the best of both of us without the worst of either of our races. Of course that’s probably too much to ask, but then you always want the best for your kids no matter what.
I'd like to know her thoughts about this new twist in events.

There are so many things that have happened that none of us could have ever predicted. Some of it is great and to our benefit and some of it will threaten to destroy not only our race but others as well. It’s a scary time to be a part of the super natural world.
How does she feel about being one of the first chosen to be mated with the wolves, how does she see her future changing because of this?

I feel honored that the Great Luna chose me and found me worthy to be mated to one of her children. I’m scared that I will not live up to what Sorin has always thought his mate would be. I can see that I will have a different roll in my own race now because my loyalty will come to my mate first.
Will they stay with the wolves? if so, who is she leaving behind in Fairy land?

I will stay with Sorin. His place in the pack is important. Fae are very different when it comes to family. We aren’t as close knit as the wolves. Once we are separated from our parents we rarely see them. I have some friends that I spend time with but I spent so much of my time as a warrior for our kind that really there isn’t anything that I will be pining over.
does she have parents? siblings? friends?

I have parents but only see them every couple of years. No siblings. My friends are mostly the comrades that I have fought beside.
did she have someone special that she thought she would end up with one day?

It can take a very, very long time for a Fae to find someone that they want to be bound to. We are not the most committed of races when it comes to relationship’s. I have had a couple relationships but they were short and not emotionally entangling.
I had always thought she and Adam would become an couple. How does she feel about Sorin?
Adam is like a brother to me. Sorin, he’s an enigma. So stoic and yet every now and then shows a side that only a few get to see. He has a great sense of humor but shares it with only his closest friends. The little time we’ve had together has been the best I’ve ever had. He makes me feel special and unique. My feelings are growing for him with each passing hour as I see how I would have never had something so amazing had I not been his mate.
While Sorin may have this overwhelming sense of belonging with her, she did not aquire this, so she is having to learn to like him, much less love him. Is she concerned about having a baby, since this is new?

I would prefer that children be a little down the road. Sorin and I are still new at this. It’s an adjustment and although it’s a good thing it’s still a new thing.

How will this new hybrid baby develop?

I truly wish I knew.
