Amazon / Barnes & Noble

My review:

I loved this book so much!! I have read the other 2 in the series as well, but this one blew them out of the water. Lola is the master of twists you don't see coming. Through most of the book I was undecided about who I wanted Toni to be with. Both Ben and Hades would be great for her. I loved the Greek mythology interwoven into the story as well.....I grew up watching Hercules and Xena lol so I love this stuff. I seriously cannot wait to see what Lola comes up with next

About Lola

Lola JamesLola James has been reading romance novels since her teens, and fell in love with the paranormal after discovering Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. Her love of the dark worlds of vampires and witches, as well as her fascination with Greek mythology led her to create the Spellbound Series, an ongoing Paranormal Romance combining all of the above into tales of suspense with a little bit of humor in an Urban Fantasy setting. A long time lover of reading and writing with a passion for a great story, James became discouraged by the complicated and arbitrary publishing process, James had initially set down her laptop and her hopes of being a writer. However, with the purchase of her first e-reader, James became re-energized by the new possibilities for an undiscovered author to reach the masses. Dusting off her keyboard she finally finished Bound to Remember, the first book of the Spellbound Series and self-published it. Energized and ambitious, James is now hard at work on both the Spellbound Series as well as the Fate Series, a paranormal romance about dreams and what happens if they come true. Wombstone by Jessica Roscoe

Mia Blake wasn’t the first girl that was taken by the vampires.

She had heard all about the girls who were missing, and even though they were only “missing”, she knew in her heart that those girls were dead.

She felt sad for them, sure. But more than that, she felt glad that they had been strangers – not someone she knew, and certainly not her. Things like that didn’t happen to girls like her.

They always happened to someone else, and that’s why she barely blinked as she made her way across an empty football field, through a deserted parking lot, to meet a fate she had arrogantly assumed was reserved for other people.

She was a stupid girl.

She paid for it.

Crystal's review

I wasn't sure what to expect with Wombstone. So when I finished reading it, I was ready for more. You are left hanging! So NOT fun =)
You meet Mia, a senior in high school with a kick-ass bestie and a loving boyfriend. She gets kidnapped in the parking lot of her high school and she has no idea why. So much happens to her while being held; starved, tortured, she gets turned into a vampire...yeah I'll stop there; don't want to ruin it for ya.
So here goes... Wombstone is awesome! It's written beautifully with very colorful descriptions, funny mental thoughts (courtesy of Mia) and yummy vampire hotties included.
Don't believe me? Check out this Excerpt:
“What do you want?” I kept throwing questions at him. “Who are you?”
“You are here,” he answered. “If you keep asking questions, I’ll kill you.”
“You broke my nose,” I said accusingly, narrowing my eyes.
He raised his eyebrows, coming closer, peering at my nose. “I could punch you again, straighten it up?”
I pulled my head back, just out of his reach.“I’ll be fine, thanks.”
“Do you need anything? More blankets?”
I stared incredulously at this teetering Jekyll and Hyde who wanted to punch me and get me a blankie in the same conversation.“I need to get home,” I said slowly, as if I were speaking to a moron. “I have my geometry final in two days.”
His tone was dry. “Somehow, I don’t think that’s going to be a problem anymore.”
Fear shot up my spine again. “Look” - I started.
“No, you look,” he said dangerously, putting a hot hand around my throat and squeezing. “I didn’t come in here to make casual conversation.”
I gasped and choked for air.
“Just do what you’re told. Cooperate. It will be over soon enough.”
I nodded, still choking. He released his grip and I fell to my knees, holding my throat with both hands. He waited, staring at me blankly, as I found the air to speak.
As I asked the question I wasn’t sure I wanted answered.
“Are you going to kill me?”
He laughed, but his mask slipped a little, because he faltered. “Of course not.”
“Well then you’re pretty stupid,” I shot.“Letting me see your face. Your license plate. Your tattoo.” I pointed to the black, luminous symbol etched onto his wrist that looked like a pair of eagle’s wings.
“Are you trying to talk me into it?” he asked with a smirk.
I glared at him.
“I know what you’re doing, sweetie. You’re trying to provoke me.”
“How am I doing so far?”
He grinned like the smug bastard he was.“Terribly.”
This is what I'm talking about. Funny and witty dialog between the characters is awesome. It made the story go by so quickly and kept me interested. There were no "dull moments".
Check out another Excerpt:
Sam stood in the doorway that led from the bedroom to the bathroom, but I could tell he didn’t want to come any closer. I had the distinct feeling it was because I was a girl, and that made me wonder. Ryan didn’t care about my personal space. I was surprised he cared for me at all, after the things he’d said and done back in Mexico.
“You’re a doctor,” I said, turning to him. “How did I lose a massive vampire bite?”
Sam frowned. “How long since you Turned?”
“Since I was Turned,” I corrected him. “You’re implying that I did this to myself. Quite the opposite. I expressly asked that this not be done.” As I heard myself talking, I realized that I sounded like an entitled little bitch, but I was beyond caring.
Sam blinked. “Right. How long since you were Turned?”
“I don’t know,” I answered quietly. “A few days? Less than a week. I don’t remember a lot of it.”
“Well, the good news is you’re not going insane,” Sam said, obviously trying to lighten the mood. “Vampirity is caused by a virus. It attaches itself to your DNA, makes its way into every cell in your body, and takes over. Vampires can heal from a wound in a matter of minutes. Have you attacked anyone yet?”
“What?” I looked at him incredulously. “No. Ew! Why?”
He shook his head, seemingly pleased. “It’s just ... you seem remarkably lucid for a newly infected vampire.”
“Remarkably lucid?” I echoed. “All I’ve done for the past few days is throw up, cry and bleed.”
“Thank God for that,” Sam replied. “Usually, vampires spend their first few weeks – or months – attacking everyone and everything they can.”
I cast a sidelong glance at the broken lamp and overturned bedside table in the corner and tried to appear calm and generally non–violent. “Is that what you did when you were Turned?”
He paled. He looked like an injured puppy dog.
“Sorry,” I apologized. “It’s none of my business.”
He just searched my face, as if looking for the answer to a question I didn’t know.
This is awkward.
“That’s what all vampires do,” he said quietly.“The bloodlust, it’s quite horrific.”
“Bloodlust?” I echoed. “Like being hungry?”
He stared at me like I was a freak. I shifted uncomfortably under the weight of his eyes.
“Like being a homicidal maniac,” he said, “with zero impulse control.”
“Oh,” was all I could think to say.
Ok so enough teasing from me. I really liked Wombstone and the HUGE bomb that is dropped towards the end...WOW! So with that said, kudos to Jessica for writing an awesome beginning to this series and I can't wait to read the next install to the Vampireland Series.

Naked by Raine Miller

The first book in the bestselling Blackstone Affair series
Naked desire. Secret satisfaction. An affair you’ll never forget.
Brynne Bennett has left scandal in her past and is living the good life. An American grad student at the University of London and part-time photographic model, she’s getting back on track with lots of hard work and focus on a career in art conservation. When London businessman Ethan Blackstone buys her nude portrait, he wants to possess more than just her image. He wants Brynne in his bed, serving him in every way possible. He has no trouble voicing his desires, and he isn’t taking no for an answer.
At first his dominant nature captivates her, but it isn’t clear if the force of his powerful desire will ultimately awaken or dispel the demons Brynne is carrying inside. There are secrets on both sides of this relationship—huge ones. Can Ethan erase the scars of Brynne’s past so that she can reveal her true self to him? Or will the shadows cast by Ethan’s own mysterious former life destroy their chance at happiness?
Naked is the sizzling, unforgettable story of what happens when a strong woman meets the one man powerful enough to strip away all her defenses, leaving her standing naked and perfect before him.

My thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book a lot, more for the relationship aspect than the steamy scenes. Although the steamy scenes were really well written, a lot of times with erotica books, you get taken out of the story with all the sex, not the case with this book.
Brynne was wonderfully wounded and fragile. I wanted so bad for her to just let Ethan take care of her and keep her safe. Her inner war with herself about him was interesting, she wanted him, but was afraid to let him in.
Ethan was the perfect blend of cocky and vulnerable. I couldn't help but fall in love with him. Heck, I wanted him to take care of me too lol.
Well done Raine! As soon as I finished this book, I started book 2, can't wait to dive back into it tonight!

The Never by Kristina Circelli

“Out of nothing, we create something.” Arianna has spent her entire life being called a dreamer, an artist who created a world no one else can see. And for her entire life, she has taken the medication that keeps that world – and the one who brought her there – at bay. Now an adult, Arianna reawakens that part of herself kept locked away in the darkest corners of her mind. When she hides her medicine from her fiancé’s ever-watchful eye, he returns – the shadow in the night who collects her for an adventure known only in her fantasies. But something is different about this world called The Never. It is no longer the cheerful place filled with light and laughter that she knew as a child. Now, the sea creatures drag their visitors into the depths of murky waters. The natives battle to the death against the tribe of children. And the pirates, led by the feared captain called The Hunter, seek out Arianna for their own sinister plans. As Arianna goes deeper into The Never, she discovers just what her connection to the land means – and must choose between her life rooted in reality, and the world where anything is possible.

Crystal's review:

When I read began reading the Never, I thought of The Never Ending Story meets Peter Pan with a female lead.

With beautiful lands depicted and entertaining swordplay with pirates, I enjoyed reading The Never. Parts of the story reminded me ofThe Never Ending Story with the amazing lands and characters and parts reminded me of Peter Pan; the pirates and their Captain and the mermaids. The twist was a female lead and the storyline. At times it was a little like Never Ending Story but quickly veered into something bigger and darker which was a plus. Having that little extra something was pure genius.  The Never is definitely not kiddyish with some scenes and language.

This was an amazing story that took two of my favorite books and movies and smashed them together and spiced them up.

Magic School USA Easy "A" Blitz

Book Description:
Harry Potter meets Animal House in this magical comedy about a school crazier then
any other!

Richard "Vegas" Beltran is an underachiever. That’s bad for any student, but it’s
especially bad when you go to a wizardry school. Black Magic is something to
be taken very seriously, but Vegas has been caught smoking “eye of newt” in
the boys’ bathroom, and all of his bubbling cauldrons seem to contain ice and
alcohol…

The principal, Professor Diaz, is ready to drop Vegas into a slower-paced magic
class. But Vegas would rather die, Houdini-style, in a botched escape act than
have to suffer through “remedial magic.” After all, Vegas only came to Absolution
High, school for the “Special Sciences,” to learn a spell that would bring his
girlfriend, Katherine, back from the dead.

Unfortunately, now that his tuition's been paid, he finds that resurrecting the
dead is an act of Godslaughter—a forbidden form of magic—and at Absolution
Academy, an illegal activity.
But “illegal” is a funny word…and one among many that Vegas doesn’t know the
meaning of…

Author Bio:
Li Chaka is spends her time dreaming about drunken wizards, music obsessed
necromancers and Bill Murray movies (Ghostbusters 2 being the FAV!). Sometimes she
writes down these strange ideas just for her own enjoyment. Then she heard that some
people actually make MONEY off of writing and selling their strange ideas. Lord have
Mercy! Will wonders ever cease !? Magic School U.S.A is her first published book but it
won't be her last.

Excerpt:

There were only a few lights on in the hallways, but other than that, the coast was clear. The adrenaline was pumping in Vegas's body and, in a way, he felt awesome. Exhilarating! It probably wasn't good that he got such a rush from being bad, but it was what it was. He pulled a beer out of the pouch of his hoodie, cracked it open and started chugging it. More awesome!   He knew there had to be security cameras mounted up all over the dormitory, especially the little lounge area with the big screen TV. Magicians were known for stealing, right? As if half of magic isn't about making expensive shit disappear. The guards were probably half-asleep or jerking off to videos of the girls’ volleyball practice. Either way, he prayed they'd be too preoccupied to care what he was up too. Once he got outside, though, there would be other problems. The Tommy Walkers were being placed around the school grounds. He remembered what Wesley had said about them being created to restrict unauthorized magic. Those Illuminati death machines were made just for bad little monkeys like Vegas.
He felt the nice cool air blast his face as soon as he opened the heavy double doors. The cold of this island was something a California boy like Vegas was not yet accustomed to. But, as he wandered around the back end of the dormitories, he admitted that the Menzai nights were even more beautiful than the California nights. The sky was filled with stars and they seemed almost close enough to reach for. He'd been on earth for sixteen years, but night and day was still an amazing concept for him.
He wanted to break into Allen Allens’ lab, but he had to make it halfway across campus to do so. The box carrying Vladimir was clutched to his chest as he snuck around the back. He saw the guard station and ducked behind a tree. Dwight was inside the booth fast asleep. Vegas wanted to conjure up a spell to mess with him a little, maybe hex him a nice wet dream starring Barney, one of the other guards. Shenanigans like that would have to wait though. Vegas was on an important mission. He was gonna have to go stealth ninja mode and creep his way across campus.
"So I creep…yeah-aah. Just keep it on da down low…" Vegas sang the old T.L.C. song silently to himself, running and ducking behind another tree. "Nobody is supposed to know...yeah-ah…"
He shot from that tree and dived behind another. He went a little go hard and almost crushed Vladimir's box underneath him. Pushing twigs and nature crap out of his way, Vegas heard a low grumbling as he started crawling on the ground like a marine.
Yeah, we're effin' pumped! Absolution Academy security probably didn't call for this much stealth warrior-ness, but the Corona he'd been sipping was making Vegas action ready. Let's milk this adventure for all it's worth!
"Yeah, I CREEP…yeah-ah, so Dwight won't know what I do..." Vegas continued as he moved through the darkened grass. The grass felt moist, cool and amazing against his skin. He imagined that the bright, white lights shining from poles around the campus were moving, searching for him. They weren't; nobody cared. But this was fun; he was a big kid using his imagination, running around in the grassy night world like he was trying to escape from prison.
A squirrel darted out at him, and Vegas let out a surprised scream. The little furry jackass landed on his back, ran down his ass between his legs and then shot straight ahead, flying up a tree at sonic speed.
"Little fucker!" Vegas shouted at it. Even the wild life in this place was psycho.
"Creeping through the grass, squirrelly seems to like my ass..." Vegas rapped. "Squirrelly wants some nuts, what a kick! It's late on a school night, he wants to get romantic!"
He laughed, wondering how much he'd get paid to ghost write for Waka Flocka Flame, when something suddenly grabbed hold of his leg.
What the Fuck?! He let out a fart from pure excitement as another hand reached out of the ground and took hold of his neck.
"Aaaaaahhhhhh!!" Vegas yelled, struggling to pull himself up. Before he could break free, two more hands grabbed his shoulders, pulling him back down to the grass and dirt.
"DWIGHT! DWIGHT!" Vegas yelled. The hand around his throat squeezed tighter, but it couldn't get a strong enough grip to stop Vegas from yelling. Not that it made much difference; Dwight was in the security booth, napping away, as Vegas's nighttime assault continued on the security cam in front of him.
Vegas pulled his neck away from the hand. "DWIIIIGGHT!!!"
His attention turned to the spot in front of him, his green eyes growing wide as saucers, when two hands, one male and one with bright nail polish like a girls, sprouted from the ground like corn stalks. He watched as the arms reached four feet tall and continued to grow.
Frozen in shock, Vegas's eyes rolled up to gaze at the sprouting hands. Like sunflowers in a nightmarish inverse world, they remained high above him, illuminated by the moonlight. The fingers spread and easy, like flower petals.
Then, they bent at the elbow, palms slapping the ground. Whatever this creature was, it was trying to pull itself out of the dirt.
Please somebody, shoot me in the head! Gouge out my eyes! I don't want to see this!  He silently begged.
The horror flushed all thoughts of escape away as the soil in front of him moved and pulled apart. A human head unearthed itself, its black, hollow eye sockets turned to face Vegas. Mort immediately came to Vegas's mind, except this cadaver was so much more terrible. There was intelligence behind those eye sockets that couldn't be driven by anything but pure evil.
The creature finally made it out of the soil only to reveal its true form. It wasn't a rotting, smelly corpse after all---it was several rotting, smelly corpses all sewn together to make a Zombie Spider!
The arms that sprouted out of the ground were the creature’s long, spider legs. Its head was stitched onto the front of its body, barely erect, but able to turn and move around. Its abdomen was made of two human ones sewn together.
Vegas had never seen anything so disgusting in his life, not even in his drunken wet dreams. It was more than he could handle, and he began to feel a strange calm wash over him. By the time he realized he was about to pass out, there was nothing he could do to sto-...
The zombie spider moved towards Vegas as the unseen monster that had snared the boy began to pull him under. The earth rumbled again as the soft soil spread apart like water. And Vegas, trapped in the quiet dark of his unconsciousness, went down, down, down. As if being dragged to hell.

Enlightened review and Melissa Lummis interview

Loti Dupree’s meager healing abilities have been more a curse than a blessing. What’s the point if she can’t even save her husband from cancer? Harboring a painful secret, Loti flees the life they had in a small Appalachian town for the ashram, the spiritual retreat where she trained to be a yogini. But she finds herself running from more than grief when an ominous nightmare sets her on a dangerous path of self-discovery that challenges everything she believes, and threatens her life.

While dodging psychic attacks from an unknown assailant, Loti races to understand who and what she is before her enemy can catch up with her. To make matters worse, events throw her into the arms of a handsome but frustrating vampire. Love and light are waiting for her—if she can only figure out how to stay alive.

Where to buy: Amazon

My review:

Author Melissa Lummis' debut novel Enlightened is nothing short of amazing. I found myself drawn into Loti's world right off the bat. Her journey was enthralling. I'm a sucker for a good witch/vampire story, this for sure did not disappoint. But be warned, if you're looking for a formulaic story that's been told time and time again, this book is not for you. Be prepared to fall in love with Melissa Lummis and the world she has created. I very much look forward to the sequel to this book, because I have to know what is going to happen next!

Now for the interview~

1.Do you have plans to write out of the paranormal genre?
Eventually, yes I do. I am currently doing research on a historical novel that is part romance, part
family saga. I’m basing it loosely on my grandmother, Katie Irene’s life as she told it to me over
countless games of rummy and pina colodas. I want to make sure have done a thorough job on
the research before I start it, so the earliest it might release is the winter of 2014.

2.What is your writing snack of choice?
LOL! I tend to drink my snacks, like coconut pu ehr tea, Island Coconut coffee, green tea,
Coke Zero and wine, mostly red, but occasionally a chardonnay or vidal blanc will make it into
the rotation. If I get peckish, I usually reach for something to complement my beverage of the
moment. With tea, I like apples and walnuts. With coffee, I’ll splurge on almond thins and
biscotti, and with wine its got to be cheese and bread or crackers and fruit.

3.Do you have a favorite artist you listen to while you write? Or a Spotify playlist you want to share?
My favorite artists to write to are Mumford and Sons, The Civil Wars, Skrillex and MC Yogi. I
have TONS of Spotify playlists and love to build new ones for new projects. My two favorite
playlists right now complement my current projects:

Samskaras I’m currently finishing edits on Samskaras, book 2 in the Love and Light series, which

will be out May 21st.

The Little Flame Another project I’m working on is the Little Flame series, scheduled to release

in novellas every 6 weeks in 2014. I started the playlist a month ago and have been listening to it
a lot, lately.

4.What authors do you read when you have spare time?
I’m always trying out new authors, especially independent authors, but I do have some favorites I
come back to over and over like Stephen King, Laurell K. Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, LK Rigel,
John Locke, Hugh Howey, C.G. Powell, Liz Schulte, Olivia Hardin, and I’m currently waiting on
the next installment of the Love and Blood series by, oh, I don’t know, you? ;-)

5. What's next up for you on the horizon?
There’s so much going on in my life right now, such as launching a writing career, raising two
crazy kids, studying yoga therapy, and traveling. My husband decided recently to take advantage
of some time off from work to go on some adventures like long distance hiking and motorcycle
adventures. As a matter of fact, he flies out to the Bahamas soon to meet up with a friend to
assist in sailing his ketch from Nassau to Tappahannock. Its going to be great adventure for him,
and we plan on going on some together as a couple, and as a family.

Personally, I am looking forward to writing the last book in this series and making a long awaited
trek to Hawaii and the UK. And maybe even going to the Bahamas over Christmas with the entire
family for a sailing adventure.

Star Cursed review

Seventeen-year-old Tayla will never forget Beast’s fiery-venom spreading through her body like an infection. Now, with her best friend Chel’s help, she must find a human true love before the last petal falls from her enchanted rose or the full moon will transform her into a wolf forever.

But Tayla never expected that her biggest obstacle would come from inside—a wolf presence threatening to take her very soul. At every turn, the she-wolf exploits Tayla’s weaknesses and gains enough control to sabotage her dates. Tayla struggles to control her unruly wolf and her forbidden attraction to Beast. But can she resist his southern charm, the she-wolf’s attraction to his alluring scent, and still fall in love with a human?

Tangled in a web of wills, Tayla must risk everything to break the Curse of the Beast. With failure and possible death looming overhead, Tayla will do anything to find true love. But will one moon cycle be long enough to conquer her wolf and remain human? Or will she become a permanent member of Beast’s pack? Find out in the second installment in the Curse of the Beast series.

Review:

Beautifully written! I did something I never do....read the 2nd book in a series without reading book 1. I was still so immersed in the story, and now I'm totally planning to read book 1. I love fairy tales, and retelling  and this was totally one I would recommend to anyone. How could you not love Tayla????
Well done Ashley!! I love, love, loved the book!!!
