Phantom by Laura DeLuca

The “Phantom” was a musical phenomenon that Rebecca had always found enchanting. She had no idea that her life was about to mirror the play that was her obsession. When her high school drama club chooses “Phantom” as their annual production, Rebecca finds herself in the middle of an unlikely love triangle and the target of a sadistic stalker who uses the lines from the play as their calling card. Rebecca lands the lead role of Christine, the opera diva, and like her character, she is torn between her two co-stars—Tom the surfer and basketball star who plays the lovable hero, and Justyn, the strangely appealing Goth who is more than realistic in the role of the tortured artist. Almost immediately after casting, strange things start to happen both on and off the stage. Curtains fall. Mirrors are shattered. People are hurt in true phantom style. They all seem like accidents until Rebecca receives notes and phone calls that hint at something more sinister. Is Justyn bringing to life the twisted character of the phantom? Or in real life are the roles of the hero and the villain reversed? Rebecca doesn’t know who to trust, but she knows she’s running out of time as she gets closer and closer to opening night. Only when the mask is stripped away, will the twenty first century phantom finally be revealed.

Our thoughts:

Wow. I must say that this was a wonderful high school rendition of Phantom of the Opera. It reminded me a bit of Sweet Valley in a good way lol I do love Sweet Valley!!!
The plot, the love triangle between a girl and 2 boys, and murder. Who knew such a young person could be capable of that? It was a great read! A page turner for me but I like these sorts of books. It reminded me of my high school books. No wait it reminded me of RL Stine's Fear Street books. I loved it!!! 5 stars

First off I have to say that I have fallen in love with Laura's books. I started my journey with her with Destiny and Destiny Unveiled they were absolutely fabulous. Her flow through her books are seamless and effortless it is so hard to put them down she captures your attention on page 1. Her covers on the books are spectacular and engaging. She builds each of her characters in a three dimensional light. In Phantom she brings the love of a classical book, play, and musical into this century The Phantom Of The Opera. I have been living under a big rock for so long that I knew what the story was about but have never read or saw it before, she gave me the desire to do just that. She placed intrigue into her storyline where you don't truly know who the real phantom is until the end and even then you are saying out loud "No Way". Laura has you routing for Becca and Justyn to get together because they bring such magic to the pages. I really recommend that you go out and get her books. Try Destiny and Destiny Unveiled then Phantom. The next book in the Phantom series is Demon and that is soon coming. Laura also has Morrigan coming soon and I can't wait. Thank you Laura for such a intense and amazing reading experience. 5 stars
