Shattered Grace Reviews

Seventeen-year-old Grace grows up knowing she’s different, but she always attributed it to a mother who didn’t want her, a father who abandoned her, and a curse that sets her apart. Despite those struggles, her grandfather remained her rock and confidant. Her life
irrevocably shatters the day her grandfather dies.

The day of his funeral sets off a chain of events, making Grace question everything she’s ever known to be true, and as a result, who she can truly trust. She inherits his house, part of his money, his Guardian and something that ties them together.

Just before Grace’s 18th birthday, she is thrust into a world she couldn’t fathom existed and does everything she can to thwart the destiny suddenly forced upon her. She’s been chosen for greatness, but at what cost? With eyes now open, she must choose to either be
Chosen, or watch those around her suffer the consequences.

Torn between the man who’s come to protect her and the one sent to destroy her, she
teeters on the edge of decision, trying to come to grips with who she is, what she wants
and what all of that means for her, those she loves and the rest of mankind.

Our thoughts:

Poor Grace....her life is all kinds of upside down after her grandfather Christophe dies.
She loses him and gains a
Guardian (Quentin), and a secret box. A box that others are searching for and willing to hurt Grace in order to get it.
This is my first book that I read by Miss Raines and it kept me intrigued throughout the whole book. I could easily picture the adventure in my mind and it was great! I WILL be adding the rest of the series to my TBR. 4 stars

Grace is simply devastated after the loss of her beloved grandfather. He was the only person who truly loved her, accepted her, and showed her that he cared. He was the only person that made her feel like she mattered. Without him, Grace is simply lost.
Soon after a lawyer shows up with a sealed letter from her grandfather. Now life as she knew it will never be the same. Not only does she have a secret, but it seems everyone around her has their own secrets. How can she grieve for the man that was her everything, prepare for the fight to stay alive, and finish high school....all at one time????
This is one of those books that makes that emotional connection right from the first page. Immediately the reader sympathises with Grace. Her sense of grief is overwhelming. From there I was a total goner. From plot twists and turns, near death experiences and a serious love quadralateral, it is the book the just doesn't stop. The story wasn't all original, but the author's take on it was. The characters are all well developed, and have just enough involvement to keep it interesting without being jumbled.
I love how Grace begins to come into her own strength throughout this story. She doesn't have insta- love, or insta-kick butt, but develops it as the story flows. Very well done!!!
I was ready for more of the story as soon as the book ended. It wasn't a cliffy ending, but more of a where does she go from here. I liked that. It almost felt as if the author was purposefully easing me into book two!! Overall, a definite read for ages 16+, there is a few heavy topics so I say mature YA. Great introduction to a new series. 5 stars

Just when I thought I would get away without shedding a tear...the end comes!

Shattered Grace is full of emotions that will make you angry, sad, happy and take a breath when you didn't realize you were holding it.

When her beloved Grandfather passes away, Grace is left with no one. Yes she has family, but they don't understand her the way he did. Allthey care about is thier inheritance.
When she meets her Grandfather's attorney and trusted friend, she can't help but feel connected to him. Thus begins the craziness that becomes known as her normal, everyday life. I would say more but I don't want to spoil it for you readers out there! =)

K. Anne Raines did such an excellent job on writing this awesome beginning to an epic adventure! The twists and turns all throughout the story keeps you entertained and on your toes. I can't wait for book 2 to come out! 5 stars

I have to say, when I finished this book, my first thought was…I need the next book!
The characters were well developed. You were able to relate quickly to the main characters. You can feel what they feel and enjoy an escape to a world that the author created. By the end of the book, you understood each character and their purpose as well as their backstory without flashbacks.
The story line had many ins and outs that made you feel as if there was so much more to come. The ending gave you satisfaction, but you knew there was more to this story. You feel hooked quickly and the intricacies of the sub plots had you looking forward to every word. Some books you wait for the next paragraph, or chapter, but this one had me almost angry when I had to put it down. I really felt what the characters felt.
Any book that makes me bite my nails in anticipation gets 5 stars from me. And this book is one of them.

Excerpt:
“It wasn’t your fault,” Quentin said softly as he came up behind her, touching her briefly
on the shoulder before lowering himself to sit on the edge of the coffee table. He leaned
toward her, resting his elbows on his knees as he stared into her eyes, his expression
conveying his compassion.
Grace raised her tear-filled eyes. “It wouldn’t have happened if I wasn’t in the car with
them.” Tears spilled over her lower lids, blurring her view of Emily’s picture glowing
from the cell phone she still gripped.
“Look at me.” Quentin lifted her face with a gentle finger. “It was my fault. It’s my job to
keep you safe and I failed.”
She heard every word Quentin spoke, but couldn’t cling to them like he intended. Every
one of her friends could have died—because of her, not him. Visions of caskets and
grieving families had her pulse quickening. Worry festered in the center of her chest—
circling and tearing at her until what rose forth was anger. With every beat of her heart,
the anger pulsed stronger. No. In her head, she said it again. No. The word ricocheted like
a war cry through her cerebral cortex until it owned her, heart and soul. Energy channeled
through every inch of her body. A shiver chased behind it. Those she cared for and loved
would not pay for what she was.
In that instant, Grace felt the power of her choice thunder through her like an electrical
current. Just like Seth in the movie, she chose to be what she was meant to be, and not to
shed what she originally thought was a burden. Newly determined, she leveled her gaze
with Quentin’s.
“What do I need to do to make sure they never hurt anyone I love again?”

Quentin gazed back at her, his features rearranging themselves into an expression flat and
cold—deadly. “You train and you fight back. You let me do my job. And we don’t let
them win. Ever.”
Resolve steeled her voice. “We won’t.”
